Wilmslow Town blew away the winter blues this weekend with an excellent set of results across all age groups. Three sides either claimed or retained their positions at the top of their respective league tables and there was a massive 68 goals scored - including three hat tricks.
The U18s welcomed Moorside Rangers to the Jim Evison fields and put eight goals past the visitors in a ding-dong 8-6 win, the youth team’s first of the season. Armitage, Johnson, Kinder, Plunkett and Traynor scored the goals.
It was business as usual for the U16s who remain unbeaten in top spot after their 7-1 away win at Oswald Road. Danny Judge (2), David McBride (2), George Gibson-Smith, William Swift and Joe Kirk featured on the match card and Harley Worthington was man of the match.
Wilmslow’s U14s hit the top of Division One after a thrilling 5-4 win over Broadheath Central Sharks. Two goals from Peter Boyle, two from man of the match Andrew Bundred and one from Alex Jackson helped the new league leaders to maintain their 100% home record and extend their unbeaten run to eight games.
Town’s U13s picked up a valuable point at home to Urmston Town. Alex Wooton and Dominic Kelly were the goal scorers in their 3-3 draw; Dan Shaw was man of the match.
The U12 Cougars bounced back from their recent cup defeat to league leaders Oswald Road with a comfortable 8-3 win over Ashton on Mersey. Emmanuel Hundeyin scored a hat trick with Will Kennedy, Luis Wright, Connor Barton, Jake Mason and Will Nicol also hitting the back of the net. Jayden Graham was named man of the match. The U12 Panthers were also back to winning ways. They travelled to Lymm and came back with three points and a three goal winning margin against Lymm Rovers Knights. George Steel was named man of the match while Braden Harris (2), Callum McKew (2), Sam Eyres, Joe Saks and Jamie Nugent scored the goals in a 7-4 away win.
At U11, the Panthers’ good recent form continued as they made it five wins from five with an 11-2 home win over Timperley Villa. Rohan Batra, Dan Nield, Calvin Boyd (2), Jack McAndry (2) and Max Paton (2) scored, while man of the match Josh Wheeler added three. The U11 Cougars went down fighting to Ashton on Mersey, rallying in the second half of a 6-2 defeat. James Simmonds and André Persand-Carter scored the Cougars’ goals; Kieran Beech was the manager’s pick.
There was frustration for the U10s. In Division One, the Panthers travelled to Urmston where they found their intended opposition but no available pitch, while in Division Three the Jaguars stayed at home following a midweek postponement. However, this left the stage clear for the U10 Cougars to underline Wilmslow Town’s dominance over local rivals Alderley United with a resounding 9 - 3 win against Alderley’s U10 A team at the Jim Evison fields. Will Watts scored four, Luke Whittleworth netted twice and goals from Charlie Welsh, Harry Bennett and man of the match Ben Thomas-Jones gave the Cougars their first league win of the season.
It was win, lose and draw for Wilmslow Town’s U9s. The Panthers held on to their unbeaten record with a nail-biting 2-2 draw against Ashton on Mersey. The Panthers looked set for their first defeat until a late header from man of the match Martin Kennedy saved the day. In Division One, the U9 Cougars halted a three-match losing run with a battling 5-4 victory over Old Stretfordians Lions, thanks to goals from Livingston, Gozem (2), Mail and an own goal. Ethan Ford was awarded man of the match. Meanwhile the U9 Jaguars received a junior football master class from Division One high-flyers Sale United; the Jaguars were well beaten but unbowed, 9-1 the final score. Matt Williams scored the Jaguars’ goal and Connor Maguire was man of the match.
