Upbeat deadline extended for young 'wannabes'

Cheshire police have extended the closing date for their Upbeat competition. Singers and bands aged 11 to 18 wanting a chance to win the opportunity to professionally record a song, work with a professional designer to create unique artwork and hear their song played on the radio, have until the end of September to submit their entry online.

To enter you need to write, perform and record a three minute song based on one of the Upbeat topics, which can be found on the Upbeat website

Entries can be as a solo singer or part of a band or group and must be original so no cover versions please! The competition is open to anyone aged between 11 and 18, and the entry can be a video or just the audio of the recorded song. If you think you have a good song in your head get some friends together or record it on your own, the recording doesn't have to be perfect, but it will be if you or your band win the competition.

If you want to get some inspiration, log on to the Upbeat website and have a look at some of the entries already submitted which range from solo artists singing in their bedroom, to full on performances by bands.

Cheshire Police is organising the competition to highlight a new website that provides a link between police and young people in Cheshire. The site covers a variety of topics and has been designed and written to meet the needs identified by youngsters who, in consultation, had clear ideas on what they wanted from the site.

To enter the competition upload your performance to YouTube or email the link to your video by the extended date of September 30th. Alternatively send it to DVD/CD at Cheshire Police HQ, Oakmere Road, Winsford, Cheshire CW7 2UA.

The reason why the competition has been extended is to encourage schools, colleges or youth organisations to help out those 'wannabees' who don't have access to equipment to record their song.

Each entry must be nominated by a responsible adult. The judging panel will consist of a member of Cheshire Constabulary, a studio producer and three young people from local schools.

Full terms and conditions can be found at www.upbeat.uk.com or find them on Facebook.
