Tests carried out on a 'puddle' of blood found in a Wilmslow park have confirmed the blood is human. Police enquiries are now continuing to trace the circumstances which resulted in the blood being spilt.
Police Officers came across the blood shortly after 1 am this morning, and cordoned off the area. Samples were taken and tested to determine whether the blood was of human or animal origin.
A police spokesperson said "Results, which have recently come back, confirm that the blood is human. Further tests will now take place in an attempt to DNA profile the blood."
Following the discovery, the area in which the blood was found was cordoned off by police. Crime Scene Investigators attended and photographed and took samples from the scene, which is a section of the Twinnies Bridge Car Park, near the footbridge running over the River Bollin.
Meanwhile, police have carried out extensive searches of the area, using officers on the ground, police dogs, and the Cheshire Constabulary Helicopter. These searches are continuing.
Police have also checked with the region's hospitals to determine whether anyone may have been admitted with significant blood loss, and also with the ambulance service to determine if they have removed any casualties from the area. All these checks have proved negative so far.
While police enquiries continue, police are asking the public to consider whether they can help. Police are keen to establish the earliest point at which the blood was in situ - officers came across it while on other duties around 1 a.m. this morning, but it is possible that a member of the public may have noticed something earlier. If you have, police would like to hear from you.
Police are also keen to hear from anyone who may have information as to the cause of the blood spillage. Until further information is known, police cannot determine whether the blood found is as a result of an accident or something more sinister.
The scene was released following completion of a full police examination around 4 o' clock this afternoon.

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
From what I have heard there is a considerable amount so this couldnt not have been a child bleeding or they would have been admitted to a hospital due to considerable effects of blood loss.
If this blood was found in the early hours then this could have been anything from a drug exchange gone wrong to a drunken gang fight, no one has filed a missing persons report so the person the blood belongs to was either alone, has no close family or friends, or were with people and they are all trying to cover it up.
Police should go into finding witnesses who were in the area from 10pm onwards...
