In the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 18th August, police found a substance which looks like blood in a park in Wilmslow.
A search was made of the area using officers and police dogs, but nothing was found.
A medical expert was asked to assess the substance found, and confirmed that his initial opinion was that it could be blood, although it could not be determined if this was of animal or human origin.
A spokesperson said "Samples have been taken for analysis to determine whether the substance is confirmed as blood, and whether it is of human or animal origin. Meanwhile, police have cordoned off the area."
Wilmslow Police are asking the public to consider whether they know the source of the spillage, and to make contact with them if they have suffered an injury which could have resulted in blood loss, or if they are aware of a pet or animal which has been injured at this location and could account for the spillage.
Police say that if the substance is proven by tests to be blood, there could be an innocent, accidental explanation for the cause, but until this is confirmed, the area will remain cordoned off while police investigations are ongoing.
