Wilmslow’s Community Champions of 2025 recognised

Wilmslow Community Awards ceremony for 2025 took place at Wilmslow United Reformed Church on Thursday 15th May, the 

The Town Mayor, Councillor Tim Higgins, presented the following ten awards to give recognition and thanks for work in the Wilmslow community:

  • Outstanding Contribution to Youth Development: Angela Ross (7th Wilmslow Guides)
  • Outstanding Contribution to Charity Work: David Cash (Wilmslow Wells for Africa)
  • Outstanding Contribution to Wilmslow's Natural Environment: Sue Worthington (Wilmslow In Bloom)
  • Community Organisation of the Year: Friends of Lindow Moss (award accepted by Co-Chair, Gary Parker)
  • Outstanding Service to Community Groups: Chris McClory (Wilmslow Civic Trust, The Green Room Theatre, Transition Wilmslow Repair Café, Chapel Lane 'Love the Lane' events, the Rex Revival Group and more)
  • Outstanding Contribution to a Local Neighbourhood Area: Julie Dawn Potts (Chapel Lane 'Love the Lane')
  • Outstanding Contribution to Community Sports: Jim Lethbridge (Handforth, Wilmslow and Alderley Athletics Club)
  • Outstanding Contribution to a School Community: Michael Hulse (Wilmslow High School)
  • Outstanding Contribution to Community Events: Miraculous Meliza (Circus fun)
  • Mayor's Award for Outstanding Contribution to Wilmslow: Helen Battilana (Wilmslow Wells for Africa, Transition Wilmslow, Wilmslow CleanTeam, Cycle Wilmslow, Friends of Lindow Moss, Wilmslow Historical Society and Wilmslow Charity Christmas Card Shop)

Wilmslow Town Council received 40 nominations for the awards – each highlighting someone making a meaningful difference in the community.

The Wilmslow Annual Town meeting took place on the same evening. Representatives from twelve Wilmslow community groups took part, sharing insights into their work, recent activities, and plans for the coming months.

Reports were shared from: Citizens Advice Cheshire North, Wilmslow Photography Club, Wilmslow Youth, CHYPS, Hope Central, Wilmslow in Bloom, Wilmslow Historical Society, Wilmslow Albion Women FC, Bare Necessities Toiletry Bank, Wilmslow Civic Trust, Transition Wilmslow and Girlguiding Wilmslow District.

Reports were also shared by Town Mayor, Councillor Tim Higgins, for Wilmslow Town Council, and PCSO Lisa Gamble for Wilmslow Police.

Wilmslow Town Mayor, Councillor Tim Higgins, who chaired the meeting, said, "It was a real privilege to present this year's Community Awards and to recognise the individuals who go above and beyond to make Wilmslow such a vibrant and caring place to live.

"We're incredibly grateful to all ten award recipients, and to everyone who was nominated, for the invaluable work they do within our community. Now in its second year, this award programme continues to highlight the dedication and spirit that make Wilmslow so special.

"I would also like to thank all those who spoke at the Annual Town Meeting and shared updates on their work. What really stood out was not only the passion and expertise of the speakers, but also the vital role they – and so many other volunteers – play in strengthening our community."
