Transition Wilmslow are hoping to get us thinking about fast fashion and its effect on the planet.
The local community group are holding a 'swishing' event at the Wilmslow Artisan Market on Sat 19th April, so that the women of Wilmslow can swap their unwanted clothes for new ones, instead of throwing them away and spending money on new ones.
Event organiser Lisa Johnson said, "We've already had some really gorgeous designer clothes donated ready to start our stall such as Hollister, Jaeger, Black White Denim, Hobbs and Phase Eight; it's going to be fantastic for local women to come along and give their unwanted clothes and go away with some beautiful new (to them) items. We will have a range of sizes, as well as a table with some accessories such as scarves, purses and jewelry, so there will be something for everyone."
Flo Collier, chair of Transition Wilmslow said, "We are really trying to get people to think before they buy new items that they probably don't need - over 100 billion items of new clothing are made every year and much of it is never worn! Most women only wear 20% of their clothes. There are definitely enough unworn clothes between us that we can swap, sustainably."
If you'd like to get involved, just bring along three or four items from your wardrobe that you don't wear anymore; you will be given the equivalent in tokens, so you can swap them with others for something you will wear.
The Transition Wilmslow stall is normally around the Rex area of the Artisan Market which is 10am to 4pm on Saturday, 19th April.
