To coincide with the national commemoration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day on 8th May, Wilmslow Historical Society is running a series of free town centre tours.

Councillor Jon Kelly, Tours organiser, said "Our 'Wilmslow in WW2 Tours' will run between Sunday 4th and Sunday 11th May inclusive so come along and celebrate Wilmslow People's role in the war. We want to hear any family stories you have too."

David Briggs, Society Chair, said " Wilmslow People served in every service and theatre in World War Two and on the home front . There are some truly amazing stories to tell of their deeds and exploits from the Battle of Britain to Burma and on the home front. V1 bombs flew overhead and more bombs fell in Water Lane, Broadway, Macclesfield Road and the Carrs. Voices from all over the World could be heard in Wilmslow's streets, cinemas and pubs."

The tour is outdoors by foot around the centre of Wilmslow and takes about two hours. Each tour is limited to a small group of people so places need to be pre-booked on 01625 250881 or by emailing [email protected]

The tours depart from outside the Sports Club on Grove Avenue at 11 o'clock sharp.
