Plans for new care home on site of builder's merchants and car wash

Plans have been submitted to build a care home on the site of a builders' merchant and car wash.

Altrincham based McGoff Group Properties Ltd are seeking permission to demolish the existing buildings on the 0.37 hectares of land to the west of Alderley Road and erect a 66-bedroom care home along with 30 car parking spaces.

The care home is proposed to be developed for New Care who have a current portfolio of 15 homes and with others already under construction. The Wilmslow care home is intended to be registered for 66 single bedrooms and provide nursing, residential and dementia care for residents of all dependency levels.

Once fully operational the new care home will create 85 new jobs comprised of 65 full- time and 20 part-time positions.

The plans can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searing using planning reference 24/4391/FUL.

Plans have also been submitted recently for new 70-bed care home on the site of the BMW garage at 130 Manchester Road, Wilmslow.

In truth something needs to be done with this site.
The car wash is an eyesore and Travis Perkins is undersized which causes problems with large delivery trucks blocking the main road because they can't easily get in, and can't turn round even if they do.
I believe the whole site is owned by Robinson's Brewery including the Kings Arms pub which will presumably remain (hopefully).
Regular users know it needs a larger car park not only for pub drinkers but also for the Thai restaurant (and the numerous cars and bikes picking up takeaways from it), and it appears from the proposed plan that the car park will be slightly extended which is definitely needed.
Whether Wilmslow needs yet another care or retirement home project is another question.

I wouldn't mind if, alongside the builders merchants and the car wash, the Kings Arms and the Thai restaurant were also to be replaced by better looking structures. The contractor/developers involved with the proposed care home are an old-established, local outfit whose delivery and end-product are never in doubt.

Two more town amenities to go then! And no doubt a few more next year as the financial catastrophe starts to bite!
