Plans have been submitted to build a residential development of the site of a former hotel.

PH Property Holdings Ltd are seeking permission for the conversion of the Deanwater Hotel on Wilmslow Road to residential use along with the demolition of all other existing buildings.

The plans include Listed Building Consent for the alteration, extension and conversion of the existing former barn to residential use, including internal alterations along with the demolition of all other existing buildings and structures.

The site, which is located within the Woodford Landscape Character Area and Green Belt, has been vacant since November 2023 when the hotel ceased operating.

The scheme proposes the construction of nine new family dwellings, in addition to the conversion of the grade II listed barn into one dwelling and construction of two semi detached dwellings within Deanwater House.

The proposal offers a mixture of 3, 4 and 5 bedroom dwellings. The existing site access will be retained and 31 car parking spaces will be provided along with garages for some dwellings.

The plans can be viewed on the Stockport Borough Council website by searching for planning reference DC/093468.

Unfortunately the old Deanwater Hotel site is now just on the edge of Cheshire East jurisdiction (bit like that monolithic eyesore alongside the A555 at Stanley Green/Handforth Dean estate) so SBC couldn't give a fig for the history or any sitting residents of the area (which to be fair has changed somewhat over the past 40 years).
An ancient wooded area with a charming by-passed historic buttress sandstone bridge over the River Dean will morph into an overbuilt mini-estate with great views but no woodland.

No mention of any Affordable Housing which is desperately needed. They shouldn’t be able to get planning consent if they don’t build AH units.
