The Green Room Theatre kicks off centenary celebrations with 'Present Laughter'

Present Laughter - Press Release

The Green Room marks their centenary next month with their season opener Present Laughter by Noel Coward kicking off the company's celebrations.

The play, a farce satirising fame, love and show business, runs from Monday 14th to Saturday 19th October 2024.

The Green Room opened its doors on 30th October 1924, the same year Coward achieved his first great commercial success with The Vortex. Present Laughter, is considered one of Coward's finest works, offering the audience a glimpse into the life of Garry Essendine, a successful and self-absorbed actor who is grappling with the highs and lows of his personal and professional life.

Matthew Smith, Director said: "The play is a testament to Noël Coward's brilliance as a playwright and a great choice to kick off our 100-year celebrations as it's so evocative of the era in which we started.

"Coward was best known for his highly polished comedies of manners, sharp wit, and memorable characters, and the enduring appeal of this play make it a must-see for theatre lovers of all ages. Whether you're a fan of classic comedy or simply looking for an evening of sophisticated entertainment, Present Laughter is sure to leave you smiling long after the final curtain falls."

Present Laughter runs from Monday 14th to Saturday 19th October with a matinee on 19th October. Each evening performance start at 7:45pm with a matinee at 2.30pm. To book your tickets for Present Laughter click here or telephone the box office on 01625 540933.
