Wilmslow High students celebrate strong set of GCSE results

At Wilmslow High School they are celebrating the achievements of the Year 11 'Class of 2024'.

Once again grades were strong and well above national average at all levels.

The percentage of students awarded the highest grades 9-8 was 18%, while the percentage of results at grade 7 and above was 31% compared with the national figure of 21.8%.

Additionally 77% passed GCSE Maths, compared to 60% nationally and 79% passed GCSE English compared to 62% nationally.

Headteacher, Ms Powley commented: "it is always fantastic to see our students celebrating after their hard work. We are delighted for them and looking forward to their next achievements as the new Sixth Form of Wilmslow High School."

Provisional figures** for pupils across Cheshire East show that 70.1 per cent of pupils achieved a 'standard pass' or better in GCSE English and maths combined (up 3.1 per cent on last year), with 49 per cent achieving the 'strong pass' – up 4 per cent on last year.

GCSE English results were particularly strong with 78.2% of Cheshire East pupils gaining the standard pass or better, with 63.6% achieving a strong pass. In Maths 75.4% (up 3%) on last year) passed with 55.4% achieving a strong pass.

Councillor Carol Bulman, lead member for children's and families at Cheshire East Council, said: "I am delighted to celebrate strong performances once again in GCSE and VTQ exam results by our amazing young people. I am so proud of all their achievements – and they should be immensely proud too.

"This time of year is often an anxious one for pupils and I would say to them that, whatever your results, together with our schools we are here to help you with your next steps – whether that is in education, apprenticeships or training."
