Wilmslow Beat have set up a new operation (Op Wizardry) to tackle the ongoing parking issue on Cliff Road.

A spokesperson for Wilmslow Police said "The area has been added to our hotspot patrol plan to regularly visit and deal with any vehicles obstructing the pavement.

"Signs are on display explaining people cannot park on Cliff Road as it forces pedestrians, prams and wheelchair users onto a busy road.

"Advisories and tickets are given out to any vehicle obstructing. On weekends cones are placed to stop people from parking the pavement, however we are working with the council for a long term solution."

In London they simply lift them onto a truck and take them to a distant compound. There are fines as well of course, and the car owner pays the costs of the operation as well, and there may be a long delay before the car can be released from the compound.

Why can't that be done here?

I’d think there’d be a permanent running cost to have such towing and storing arrangements

This has been an issue for many years and no solution found. The problem is CEC think it's seasonal and will soon go away. It won't, and just gets worse year on year. This really is an accident waiting to happen for pedestrians and CEC need to wake up and find a permanent solution. They find money for other projects, so surely someone could sort this mess out this year. If it was affecting the Councillors, I am sure they would.

I live at the top of Cliff Road and this yearly awful dangerous parking and snub to the laws is amazing.
At one point large planters were put in to stop cars…. Why were they removed?
If I parked on a pavement on water street I would get a ticket… so why this vague approach of not just imposing tickets every time or car removal?

This has been an issue for many years and I have to say that the photo here is likely from a few years ago. It used to be that every time the sun came out the pavement would be blocked, Wilmslow Town Council would say "something must be done, but it's Cheshire East you need to speak to" and nothing would happen.
Last year Wilmslow Town Council changed, suddenly from nowhere we had cones placed on the pavement at weekends, now signs have gone up and the situation is better. By no means perfect as there are still occasional problems but much better than before. WTC have somehow managed to find a no-cost temporary fix and have pressured the Police into dealing with what is a Police issue - pavement parking.
Why it has taken so long is a mystery, but at least something is happening.

Once CEC admit that Wilmslow is full and can no longer cope, such problems will continue. Toll booths with permits for residents only spring to mind.

Better idea, close Cliff Road to through traffic !

Terry. Just one tiny problem for you based on your comment. If such a thing were ever implemented. You won’t be able to visit any town anywhere ever again.

Let’s be welcoming, at the very least people visiting Wilmslow help local business.

I accept people shouldn’t park like they do but banishing all aside from residents????

Terry may have a point though - perhaps "Residents Only" parking in certain areas of Wilmslow may help. I accept that it often just pushes the problem elsewhere, but we do have some big car parks that are under used on the basis that people would rather not pay and therefore park where they feel like it.
