Tatton Climate Change Hustings goes viral

Husting Full Hall

Local environmental charity, Transition Wilmslow, organised a Climate and Nature Recovery hustings for Tatton's parliamentary candidates in Wilmslow on Saturday, 8th June.

Constituents from across the constituency came to hear Nigel Hennerley (Green), Ryan Jude (Labour), Esther McVey (Conservative) and Jonathan Smith (Liberal Democrat) be challenged on their proposals for mitigating and adapting to climate change and promoting nature recovery.

There was standing room only in the hall as candidates addressed the questions which had been submitted in advance to represent a broad range of environmental issues. In addition, the Hustings was live streamed on facebook and has garnered a great deal of interest online and in the national press; at last count there had been over 2 million views of clips from the event across social
media.

Lisa Johnson, Trustee of Transition Wilmlsow, said: "It was wonderful to hear such interesting, important and informed questions from our audience, and to see so many young people including school students so engaged in environmental issues."

Professor David Hulme, who chaired the event, said: "We are grateful to all of the candidates for coming along and for responding to our questions; we really appreciate their time and commitment in taking part in our Hustings event."

The unreported reason this footage "went viral" is that everyone was laughing at a particularly foolish statement by Esther McVey who, not reading the audience at all, repeated the statement again. Comedy gold!

I hope all these people with time on their hands walked or cycled to this charade. I’m adapting to climate change at the moment by putting on my winter sweater.
If one could pass on my email address I have a few bridges for sale and I suspect the attendees would be a ready market!!!

It would indeed be comedy gold if these poor, indoctrinated fools weren’t so dangerous and their intentions were not so worrying!!
