Dan Price has today, Thursday 9 May, taken office and begun his four-year term as Cheshire's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) following his election victory last week.

The new PCC's first day in office included; meeting with the Chief Constable, visiting various Constabulary teams, including the Serious Organised Crime Unit and the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB), holding his first Management Board meeting with the Constabulary's Senior Leadership Team.

Dan has set out the objectives for his term of office, outlining his areas of focus for ensuring that residents of Cheshire have an effective and efficient police service. These include:

  • More police, faster response.
  • Prevention focussed – With more early intervention services in schools and youth organisations across the county, preventing young and vulnerable people from becoming tomorrow's criminals.
  • Community led policing plans – Giving each community the chance to define its policing priorities.
  • Learn from victims – Through a Cheshire victims' board, supporting them and increasing confidence in the criminal justice system.
  • Reform and modernise - By pioneering new technology, learning from best practice elsewhere and greater collaboration with other forces, we can take back our streets.

Police and Crime Commissioner, Dan Price said: "It's an honour to be taking office as Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, and I want to thank those who took the time to vote during the elections.

"I am looking forward to putting my manifesto commitments into action and delivering on my promises to the people of Cheshire.

"I have had a great first day in the office, meeting with the Chief Constable and understanding the workings of some of the teams that are at the forefront, of making Cheshire a hostile environment for criminals."

Chief Constable, Mark Roberts said: "I would like to congratulate Dan Price on his election to the post of Police and Crime Commissioner.

"I look forward to discussing his proposals for his Police and Crime Plan and remain committed to ensuring Cheshire continues to be an even safer place for the general public, but a hostile destination for criminals."

PCC candidates may be non-politically affiliated but if the post has to be continued/maintained there is some sense in thinking policies are reflected in and supported by the policing policies of the incumbent government of the day. Why the police cannot be directed to reflect the needs/will of the people (we the electorate) is beyond me, their top brass are surely paid enough to work this out for themselves...!
