Youth musical theatre group bring Oklahoma! to Wilmslow

Following the success of last year's show, the cast of TEMPO youth musical theatre group will be performing the classic Oklahoma! in Wilmslow this Spring.

Oklahoma! was the first collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. It opened on Broadway in 1943 running for over five years and 2,000 performances, a record at the time.

Oklahoma! tells the tale of a romance between cowboy Curly and Laurey and of a community banding together in the frontier life that shaped the USA. It has been revived many times over the year's most recently in the West End in 2022 and was made into an Oscar winning film in 1955. The show is full of classic songs including, Oh What a Beautiful Morin, People Will Think We're In Love, Surrey With a Fringe on Top, and of course Oklahoma!

Alison Bisset, TEMPO's Chairman said "All of our young cast have been working very hard at rehearsals for Oklahoma which is a very different style of show to last year's Footloose. They have relished the opportunity to take part in what is a well-known and much-loved musical theatre show with many fabulous songs and some fantastic foot tapping dance routines which I am sure our audiences will love. Opening night is just around the corner and the cast simply can't wait!"

Oklahoma! will be at the Evans Theatre, Wilmslow Leisure Centre between the 12th - 16th March. Performances are at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday 16th March at 2.30pm. For more information and tickets go to www.tempotheatre.com, email [email protected] or call 07536 398948.
