Local youth charity, Cheshire Youth Pantomime Society (CHYPS), is celebrating a momentous victory after sweeping up FIVE prestigious awards for their pantomime production of Beauty and the Beast at the Greater Manchester Drama Federation awards night.
The talented cast and crew of CHYPS gathered at the awards ceremony at Guide Bridge Theatre on Saturday, 29th July, where the awards were presented by Paddy Bever, known for his role as Max Turner in Coronation Street.
The five awards were:
1. Best Principal Girl: Abi Beton as Belle
2. Best Fairy: Daisy Garbutt as Cheri Blossom (joint)
3. Best Fairy: Tilly Holah as Belladonna (joint)
4. Best Pantomime Director: Sally Hunt
5. Adjudicator's Award: Ollie Lugo as Cierge
In addition to their wins, CHYPS received five other nominations for Best Pantomime, Best Dame (Adam Bryne as Loo Loo Latrine), Best Comedy Performance in a Pantomime (Edward Needham as Jacques), Best Pantomime Choreography (Amy Dick), and another Adjudicator's Award (Darcy Cassidy as Holly Cotton).
Ian Hunt, CHYPS Chairman, said "We are immensely proud of all our winners, nominees, and, in fact, the entire cast and team of CHYPs."
CHYPS, a youth charity based in Wilmslow, providing opportunities for talented teenage performers in the area to showcase their acting, singing, and dancing skills. Their annual pantomime at The Evans Theatre, Wilmslow Leisure Centre, has become a highly anticipated event, drawing audiences from across South Manchester and Cheshire.
The resounding success of Beauty and the Beast has set the bar high for their next production, "Robin Hood," scheduled to run from 3rd to 7th January 2024.
