Wilmslow Town Council has supported Transition Wilmslow's Repair Café through a Community Grant of £371.
The funding will be used to purchase a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT) device to check the safety of electrical equipment repaired at Repair Café events.
Transition Wilmslow has held Repair Cafés - which offer repairs for small electrical, wooden, clothing and jewellery items as well as bikes - since 2019. The events, run entirely by volunteers, help people to play their part in climate action by making the things last longer. Repair Café organisers estimate that they saved 1.75 tonnes of Co2 from landfill during 2022.
Transition Wilmslow usually run three Repair Cafés per year. Repairs and refreshments are free, though organisers are grateful for donations to support venue hire and insurance.
Wilmslow Town Council Chair, Jon Newell, said, "Wilmslow Town Council is proud to support the Repair Café initiative, which benefits the community in a number of ways: it allows residents to reduce waste and save money through free repairs, brings people together for a local event and also enables members of the community to use their skills and knowledge for the benefit of others."
The next Repair Café will be held on Saturday 1st July at St Chad's Handforth.
