Voters should have now received their polling cards, informing them where their polling station is located.

Voters can either vote in person, by post or by appointing someone they trust to vote in their place, known as a proxy vote. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on 18th April. The deadline to apply for a proxy vote is a week later, 5pm on 25th April.

This May, for the first time, voters will need to show photo ID to vote at a polling station. This is a new requirement, introduced by the UK government's Elections Act. To find out which ID you can use in the polling station, visit the Electoral Commission website.

If you do not have one of the accepted types of ID, you can apply for free ID online or by completing and submitting a paper form to Cheshire East Council. You must apply by 5pm on 25th April, to be able to use the Voter Authority Certificate on 4th May.

Is “Local Conservatives” registered as a political party?
I can understand their reluctance to appear associated with the shameful rotten goings-on at Westminster but would “Independent Conservatives” not be more apposite?

In the UK, all political parties can register a number of different names with the electoral commission.

"Local Conservatives" is one of the ten registered names of the Conservative Party.

VERY interesting that all the Conservative candidates feel they must not stand as Conservative Party candidates. What is their reason for attempting to mislead the hus Residents of Wilmslow electors into believing they are a separate party from their failed predecessors, who all let down Wilmslow's voters election after election by. Those Conservative Councillors allowied the local party's leaders to dictate what that leadership wanted for the town, not what was in the best interests of Wilmslow. Hence Residents of Wilmslow (RoW) was born to fight for the good of Wilmslow. "People before Party" clearly tells the voters what RoW is about, independent minded councilors, putting Wilmslow first.

Yes, Manuel is quite correct!

Angela, for example, has many qualities, but I find it hard to understand how she can justify not using the identical name for her party as our MP Esther does? After all, Angela does work for her!

Such independence isn’t unique, but would it not be clearer to stand as an Independent, therefore cutting ties completely from Westminster and acting locally for Residents? Sounds like Residents of Wilmslow if I’m not very much mistaken!
The film ‘Life of Brian’ featuring the Popular People’s front of Judea or was it the People’s Popular front of Judea that inspired these name changes?

I wonder what PE will make of all of this? And will the Conservative Party add any Local Conservative wins to their overall election results?

Maybe it's an attempt to distance themselves from the incompetent, corrupt, self-interested shower who are self-evidently failing to run the country at the moment?

Hi Nick, Chetan Katre was included on the CEC website when the candidates were lists were released on April 6th and still is https://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/pdf/elections/town-and-parish-councils-elections-2023/statement-of-persons-nominated/statement-as-to-persons-nominated-wilmslow-town-council-east-ward.pdf.

I am sure he was also listed on the WTC website at the time as a councillor when I went through the list. I actually contacted WTC this morning for clarification as to what has happened in the interim and am awaiting a response so I can publish my half written article.

The vacancy notice on the WTC website is dated yesterday (12th April).

Residents of Wilmslow will once again have a stall at this months Artisan Market, something it has regularly done since lockdown ended. It's a great way for RoW councillors to meet people and to discus any issues or ideas they have about the town and its councils.

Some of the 'Local' Conservatives have also called by and mentioned what a great idea it is to have a stand. It's something they would like to copy.

However, our 'Local' Conservative's are not allowed to do it because their 'Local' Conservative Tatton Head Office in Knutsford, won't let them.

Which begs the question, what does 'Local' really mean?
