Town Council awards £33,885 to continue funding Citizens Advice

Citizens Advice June 2022

Wilmslow Town Council has agreed to continue its long-standing funding of Citizens Advice in Wilmslow, with a grant of £33,885.

The funding will be used to continue services in Wilmslow for three days per week. In addition to a three-hour drop-in service on Monday mornings at the United Reformed Church, Citizens Advice will continue to provide appointment sessions on Wednesday mornings at the United Reformed Church, and Thursday mornings in Wilmslow Parish Hall.

The Town Council has funded the Citizens Advice service in Wilmslow since September 2012, enabling local people to access face to face independent advice in the town rather than having to travel to Macclesfield to receive the support.

Wilmslow Town Council Chairman, Frank McCarthy said, "We are pleased to be able to continue our long-standing funding of Citizens Advice, so that Wilmslow residents can access free, confidential and independent advice on money, housing, work, benefits and much more."

Will McKellor, Chief Officer of Citizens Advice Cheshire North, said, "The support we receive from Wilmslow Town Council will ensure that people in the town will get the help they need, when and where they need it. Without the financial support from Wilmslow Town Council, we just would not be able to offer the services we do, meet the demand, or plan future support.

"When we are trying to put Covid behind us, local people now face a new challenge as homes and small businesses are having their finances squeezed by rising prices. It is reassuring to know that Wilmslow Town Council recognises the problems that people face and are doing something about it".
