A regional premiere of Minions: The Rise of Gru was hosted by Derbyshire-based sweetmaker Swizzels in Wilmslow this weekend.

Out now in cinemas, the latest installment in the Minions series is a prequel to the first film and set in the 1970s - where young Gru, with the help of the Minions, hatches a plan to become evil enough to join supervillain group, the Vicious Six.

This year, Swizzels has agreed a license with Universal ahead of the release of the film, to produce a range of Minions-themed sweets.

To celebrate the collaboration, a regional premiere was held at The Rex cinema - with influencers and Swizzels fans alike receiving exclusive invitations to attend.

Families were treated to a host of fun activities at the event, whilst there were plenty of Swizzels goodies for movie-goers to enjoy - including their new Minions' range.

Clare Lynch, brand manager at Swizzels, commented: "Swizzels is such a fun, iconic brand, and we were thrilled to further reinforce this with an agreed license from Universal to create our very own Minions' range.

"As part of this partnership, we were delighted to be able to host our very own premiere of Minions: The Rise of Gru and celebrate the fabulous new movie and our delicious new range of Minions sweets.

"It was fantastic to have so many people in attendance, the Minions film and our sweets both proved to be a big hit with fans."

Swizzels Minions-themed sweets, including Blueberry and Banana flavoured Squashies, packs of Tropical Chew Bars, as well as individual Tropical Chew bars with a surprise sherbet centre, are available in shops now.
