Five fire engines were called to a fire at a bungalow in Wilmslow in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Crews from Wilmslow, Poynton, Knutsford, Cheadle and Altrincham attended the incident on Clifford Road at 4.23 am.

Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reel jets and a covering jet to extinguish a fire in rear room of a semi-detached single storey property.

They carried out a thorough search and occupiers and residents of the neighbouring bungalow were all accounted for.

The fire had broken into the loft space, but had not spread further into next door's attic.

An investigation at the scene found the fire was caused by a faulty freezer.
