During this Christmas period, Pownall Hall School has taken part in a number of charity appeals and events, raising hundreds of pounds for charity.
On Monday 6th December, the whole school took part in the charity's When You Wish Upon A Star Elf Wish Walk. Pupils each wore an elf hat, provided by the charity, and then walked around the school grounds, following a treasure trail. Collectively, pupils raised over £750 for the charity, which was a fantastic achievement.
Each walk finished in the school's Forest School where the children toasted marshmallows and enjoyed a hot chocolate. When You Wish Upon A Star is a charity that grants wishes for children with life threatening illnesses. They can be anything from being a princess for a day to swimming with dolphins. So far, the charity has been able to grant over 18,000 wishes.
Alongside the charity walk, pupils have also been donating new toys for the Wood Street Mission, which is a charity that provides essentials for low-income families in Manchester. Each Christmas the charity launches a toy appeal so that no child goes without opening a present on Christmas morning.
Pupils at Pownall donated dozens of toys, which were then delivered to the Wood Street Mission by some of the school's Form 6 pupils.
Headmaster, David Goulbourn, said: "We are always very supportive of local charities and are delighted to have raised so much for When You Wish Upon A Star. The Wood Street Mission is also an extremely well-deserved charity and I am very proud of how the school has got behind this cause and donated so many wonderful gifts. Our efforts will really make a difference for those who matter most at this time of year."
