Styal Running Club launches free beginners’ course

Styal Running Club is offering a Couch to 5k course in the New Year, the first time since 2018 it has run this successful programme.

The course starts at 10.30 on Saturday 8th January 2022 and will continue for 10 weeks, culminating in the participants running Wilmslow parkrun on Saturday 12 March, and a graduation ceremony.

Styal RC coach and coaching and development officer, Tony Collier, says: "This is a great course for new and returning runners to complete. Many of our past beginners are now established members of Styal RC with some of them completing half marathons and marathons recently, and others winning age group categories at races. We hope, at the end of the course, to be able to offer further opportunities for participants to develop their
running skills and follow in the footsteps of previous graduates."

2018 graduate Stuart Bradshaw adds "Having never seriously considering running, but with a growing waistline, I signed up for a C25K course run by Styal RC volunteers. Their friendly and helpful approach made those first steps much less daunting for a beginner like me. Goals were set based on individual ability; an ethos that has continued at the club since I joined. I carried on running to complete 10K and half marathon races - and my first marathon two years later!"

The course, which is free of charge, will be based at Styal's new HQ, Wilmslow Phoenix Sports Club. It will be run by the Club Coaches with an enthusiastic team of qualified Run Leaders, many of whom have completed previous Couch to 5k programmes with Styal.

Numbers will be limited, and prospective participants should email [email protected] to register interest at the earliest opportunity.
