Budding artists to help light up Handforth

Each year Handforth Town Council runs a poster competition to advertise the Handforth Christmas Lights Switch on.

The winners of the competition receive a prize in the form of a gift voucher and will be able to attend the switch on, this year, alongside Jackie Weaver to press the big button to light up Handforth and mark the start of the Christmas period.

Two local primary schools, St Benedict's and The Grange, entered this year ad the following winners were selected:

  • 1st place: Amelie age 10 (St Benedict's) – will receive a £20 gift voucher.
  • 2nd place: Olivia ge 5 (The Grange School) – will receive a £10 gift voucher.
  • Joint 3rd place Dylan (The Grange School) and Emilie (St Benedict's) – will each receive a £5 gift voucher.

Town councillors Susan Moore and Cynthia Samson attended assemblies at both schools today, Friday 19th November, to award the prizes.

Councillor Susan Moore said "Thank you so much to all the wonderful children & teachers who welcomed Cllr Samson and myself at assemblies today. We were delighted that so many children took part in the competition and many congratulations to the winners.

"Looking forward to seeing everyone at the lights switch on 27th November with our friend Jackie Weaver."

The Handforth Christmas lights switch on will take place at 4pm on Saturday, 27th November in The Paddock. During the day there will be a mini Christmas market from 2pm to 5pm with various community stalls and activities.
