Wilmslow's Tour of Britain celebrations to include BMX stunt performances

Wilmslow Town Council have announced the arrangements which have been made to entertain the crowds who gather to celebrate Wilmslow's intermediate sprint of the Tour of Britain during the afternoon of Thursday 9th September.

Riders from British Cycling's biggest professional race are anticipated to arrive in Wilmslow town centre from the north via Manchester Road at approximately 1.50pm, turning right at the Rex and sprinting up Water Lane.

With 120 professionals - including World champions, Tour de France winners and Olympians – taking part, a race convoy including police, safety bikes, TV motorbikes, team cars, convoy cars and judges, and worldwide TV coverage, it is a spectacle not to be missed.

To mark the occasion, Wilmslow Town Council have organised entertainment at the main traffic lights by the Rex Cinema from 12.30pm. The service road running from Hoopers to Costa will be closed to maximise available space, and there will be BMX stunt performances, free commemorative flags and music.

Martin Watkins, chairman of Wilmslow Town Council Chairman said "Hosting an intermediate sprint of The Tour of Britain is a big opportunity for our town. We are pleased to be able to provide entertainment for residents, visitors and town centre workforce, and hope that the town centre businesses can harness the increased footfall by showcasing their businesses."

Entertainment will run from approximately 12.30 – 2.30pm, with three 20-minute performances by a professional BMX bike stunt expert demonstrating an array of tricks and stunts.
