Sisters to open new Wilmslow bakery and cafe

Plans have been submitted to enable a new bakery to open in Wilmslow town centre.

Buzzy Bee Bakery are seeking planning permission for the installation of a kitchen extract unit at Unit 2 and the ground floor shop at Unit, 3 on Hawthorn Lane to enable them to operate a bakery and attached cafe.

Millie trained as a professional chef at the Leith's Cookery School in London and went on to work as a pastry chef in London, Australia and Cheshire, before taking the leap and setting up Buzzy Bee Bakery in June 2018.

Millie has been selling her range of brookies, cookies, brownies and donuts at artisan markets and in 2019 her sister Lydia joined the business.

Buzzy Bee Bakery will be located in an empty retail unit which was previously occupied by a cosmetic clinic - as the business also falls within Class E planning permission is not requirement for a change of use.

Lydia & Millie told wilmslow.co.uk "We had some hiccups along the way trying to find a building to open up our first shop in, a lot of landlords didn't want to take a risk on a start up. But we finally found our perfect shop on Hawthorn Lane and a wonderful Landlord named Andrew who took a chance on us.

"Our new shop is 2,500 sq and if all building works go to plan we will open up In August time. We always wanted to open in Wilmslow as not only is it local to us but we used to have markets there and we would sell out after a few hours, plus we really believe Wilmslow is going to become a super busy and vibrant place to be, which is perfect for our shop. We've already made friends with the businesses around us and can't wait to be part of a community."

Buzzy Bee Bakery will sell all their usual products but also hope to bring in lots of new products and flavours. There will also serve hot drinks along with homemade milkshakes.

The proposed opening hours are 8am to 6pm from Monday to Saturday.

The plans can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council planning portal by searching for planning reference 21/2973M.

Sounds great- will you be making bread as well? There is a real need in this area for a proper bakers making sourdough and other breads (preferably organic), and croissants etc.-I’m sure that would be very popular and widen your appeal!
