Schoolchildren give generously to those in need this Christmas

St Benedict's Catholic Primary School has teamed up with the SVP Society and Hope Central to provide gifts and food hampers for those most in need this Christmas.

Headteacher Hannah McGuire commented, "We are so blessed with such a generous school community. They never shy away from helping others and this year, even when so many are struggling themselves, the amount of gifts we received has been overwhelming."

In order to spread the word about the gifts that were needed, children whose role it is to promote the act of charity within school - known as Mini Vinnies - decorated the path into school with stars.

As children came into school, they chose a star which told them what kind of gift was needed.

Deputy Head Mrs McBride said "The children loved the idea of choosing a gift and most of the stars went the first day. We are so proud of our children and their generosity."
