Wilmslow Ladies 1st 5 Timperley Ladies 1st 2
An unbeaten ladies 1st team hosted a Timperley side who have found themselves rising up the table in the last few weeks. On the back of a fabulous performance last weekend, Wilmslow needed a win to see them as champions.
A nervous Wilmslow started slowly and a loose pass saw Timperley intercept and take the lead. This seemed to spur the girls on and some accurate passing out of defence and up the pitch led to Lindsay Rachubka's equaliser.
Intent on getting back ahead into their usual winning position, the tangerines began to press high and hard causing unrest amongst a shaky defence. Honey Dickinson went and scored her first of the game by eliminating the keeper one-on-one, to give the home side the lead, 2-1. Just before half time, a questionable umpire decision resulted in a breakaway and Timperley got a goal to level the scores going into the break.
There followed a passionate half time team talk focusing on how the girls were 35 minutes away from being undefeated champions. Soon after the restart Dickinson had a clever attempt on goal. The keeper parried only into her path and she slotted home the rebound confidently, 3-2. Motivated by finding their form, Wilmslow took the bull by the horns and pushed on to extend their lead.
Dickinson who was putting in a excellent performance went and completed her hat trick with an intelligent slip round the Timperley goalie. The two-goal gap was what the girls deserved. Going into the last 10 minutes, young Dickinson grabbed, quite incredibly, her fourth of the game to round off a great performance by the team. 5-2 was the final result and the 3 points meant the 1st team were crowned champions and their unbeaten record maintained.
Just desserts for Wilmslow's finest team in the modern era.
Wilmslow Ladies 3rds beat Timperley 4ths 3-2. Ladies 4ths travelled away to Deeside and sealed promotion with a fine 2-1 win against Deeside Ramblers 4ths
In a weather affected day only three mens sides played. Wilmslow Mens 2nd beat Wrexham 1sts 3-0 to stay top of the league. Mens 3rd had an unusual set back when they lost 0-2 to Brooklands 6th at home.
The Mens 5th had an excellent 4-0 win away to Urmston 3rds.
