The Wilmslow Community Cup (WCC) is taking place on February 12th 2010 on the football pitches at Wilmslow Leisure Centre. The WCC is an annual football tournament involving football teams from local youth clubs and  schools, as well as emergency services personnel from Wilmslow, Alderley Edge and Handforth.

The organiser of the Wilmslow Community Cup, Police Community Support Office (PCSO) Suzi Williams, hopes to attract over 70 players to the tournament with approximately 8 teams taking part. Last year’s Community Cup tournament was a resounding success.

With support from the local business & emergency services, including sponsorship from O2 Wilmslow, and commitment from key volunteers from Russell Burling’s team at Premier Football Coaching, this year’s event promises to be even more successful.

Suzi said “Thanks to funding from Jon Parker at O2 Wilmslow through O2’s community support initiative ‘It’s Your Community’ we are able to secure this event for another year.”

She went on to say “Last year colleagues from the Wilmslow station were involved in some hard fought football matches and there were a few bruised shins and egos on the Monday morning after the tournament”

Jon Parker the O2 Wilmslow franchisee said, “I wasn’t involved in the Community Cup last year, but all the reports of last year’s event are very positive. An event of this type is exactly the sort of community based activity O2 Wilmslow is happy to support. It’s good to see young people getting involved.”

Registration will be at 9:15am on February 12th 2010 with the first round of matches kicking off at 10:00am. Each match will be professionally officiated and the winners of the overall tournament will be presented with the Wilmslow Community Cup trophy at 4:00pm.

If any local businesses would like to volunteer some time or sponsorship to support the tournament please contact Suzi Williams on 0845 4586374 or email [email protected].
