Every year the Department for Children, Schools and Families publishes the school league tables as a guide to how well each school is doing. The 2009 school league tables showing  GCSE and A Level results for both state and independent schools in England were published yesterday.

The GCSE league tables rank schools according to the percentage of pupils gaining at least five GCSEs (or vocational equivalents) at grades A* to C,
including the key subjects of English and maths. The percentage of pupils gaining two A* to C grade passes in science, is also recorded.

Gill Bremner, Head teacher, explained: "The contextual value added measure for post 16 also placed Wilmslow High at the top of the ladder with a score of 1013.8 – approximately half a grade better progress from Key Stage 4 (GCSE) than the national average."

The regional A Level league table produced by Dalton Firth Limited for The Telegraph shows that Wilmslow High School are ranked 8th in Cheshire East.

Gill Bremner commented: "As always we are delighted to be able to congratulate our students on their examination results at GCSE and particularly 'A' level in 2009. These successes would not be possible without the hard work of students and staff and the support of parents. We are never complacent however and will continue to strive for further improvement."

"As a 'High Performing School', a status we were granted by the government in 2008, we now have a second specialism in applied learning to complement our sports specialism. This means that we are able to expand the range of qualifications available to students across the age and ability range. This development should support our aims of raising attainment and achievement still further for students in the future. In the meantime well done again to all our young people who did so well in the summer of 2009."
