Refuse collections return to normal timetable

Whilst every effort has been made to collect waste in Cheshire East during the recent bad weather many collections, particularly in the Macclesfield, Wilmslow and Knutsford areas, have been severely delayed due to snow and the prolonged freezing temperatures.

A spokesperson from the council explained “Not all refuse collections have been possible: indeed some households, because of the combination of Christmas, New Year and the severe weather, were waiting up to four weeks for collections.

“Earlier this week, refuse collectors who turned up to work, but who were not able to get their vehicles on the road, were redeployed clearing snow by hand.”

As a result of the delays, the decision has been taken to revert back to the regular waste collection and recycling timetable from Monday January 11.

Residents are asked to check their waste collection stickers and put out their recycling and waste for kerbside collection accordingly. Extra operatives and resources will be brought in to help collections to be made as scheduled.

A statement issued today said “We would like to thank residents for their continued patience in this matter and apologise for any inconvenience caused. Every effort is being made to collect waste across the Macclesfield area. Without the dedication of staff over the past week, even the limited amount of collections which have taken place would not have been possible."
