Wilmslow Royal British Legion held their annual Joe Broadhurst Charity Crown Green Bowling Pairs Competition on Sunday, June 25th.

Mark Sandham, from Wilmslow Royal British Legion, said "We had a excellent day and had new players travelling near and far and all really enjoyed their day out and have promised to return next year."

The competition was a full again, with thirty-two pairs, and once again the winners were again Martin Walker and Grant Soller who beat Andy Raymond & John Hignett 21-16 in the final.

This was the sixth year the event has run as an open pairs competition with all the money raised going to Clic Sargent. This year the event raised a record breaking £1,392 and Wilmslow Royal British Legion has raised over £5,600 for the children's cancer charity

Mark Sandham added "I would just like to thank everyone who turned up and bought raffle tickets and a special mention must go to Wally Bell and green keeper Jimmy Cracknell, and all our supporters and players who helped make it a record breaking day.

"I'm sure everyone who attended the day enjoyed themselves and we hope to repeat it all over again next year."

The annual competition is held in memory of Joe Broadhurst who was a life long member of the club. After he passed away the club decided to run a competition in his name, at the same time Robert West a member of club received the devastating news that his daughter had cancer. Robert and his family were helped throughout their ordeal by Clic Sargent so it was decided to run a charity competition where all profits from the competition would go to this very worthwhile charity.
