Lindow u13s win league and cup double

On Tuesday evening Lindow u13s beat Didsbury in the Cup Final to complete a remarkable league and cup double.

Their league campaign began in April when they were placed in a regional group with six other local clubs. Having beaten all six they qualified for the next stage with the other leading clubs. With wins in the second stage over Alderley Edge, Brooklands, Cheadle and Stretford they knew that victory in their final match away at Bowdon would secure the league title.

Lindow batted first and scored 94-6 off their 20 overs with Ben Hamilton-Ryan top scoring with 30 not out. A very impressive bowling performance saw Bowdon bowled out for 85 with 4 wickets for Tom Orr and two wickets each for Hamilton-Ryan, Ross Livingston and Henry James. This nine run victory crowned Lindow u13s as the league champions for the first time since 2003.

With the league won, just three days later Lindow hosted Whalley Range in the Cup semi-final. Lindow scored 95 off their 20 overs, with Charlie Hodge scoring 30 not out, before restricting Whalley Range to 58-9 to progress to the final. This was a real team effort with nine bowlers used and seven of them taking wickets.

With the final taking place just 24 hours later it looked as though it might be a step too far for Lindow as Didsbury chose to bat and raced to 64-0 off 5 overs. Many teams would have felt the game was already lost, but a strong fight back by Lindow, including 3-12 from Harry Whitmore and 2-28 from Will Espley, saw the hosts finish on 120-6 off their 20 overs. To win this Lindow had to bat well and that's exactly what they did, with Charlie Hodge (33 not out), Tom Wilson (20) and skipper Henry James (24 not out) leading the team to cup victory.

The success of the u13s has capped off an excellent season for Lindow's junior teams with a league title for the u11s and cup victories for the u12 boys and the u11 girls. The girls' victory was particularly impressive as it was their first ever season.
