Following delays due to technical issues, Wilmslow Town Council had been hoping to have the new public toilets in The Carrs open this month.

Work is currently being undertaken is to connect the water supply. However the connection of the electricity supply, which was due tobe carried out this week, has been put back by two and a half weeks because of work taking place on Church Street.

Town Clerk Matthew Jackson said "The electricity supply is not due to be connected until the second week of July due to conflicting roadworks in the area and the resultant inability of the electricity company to secure the necessary highways permit."

The work is now scheduled to be carried out on the 12th and 13th of July, when the work finishes on Church Street. Once the electricity is connected the toilets should be open within a matter of days.

Matthew Jackson added "Whilst frustrating we remain on course to have the toilets open prior to the summer holidays."

The building contains one unisex and one disabled semi-automatic toilet which will be open from 8am to 6pm daily. There will be a 20p charge to use the toilets, which will go towards the cleaning and maintenance costs.

The toilet block will be equipped with cctv to all elevations and includes a refreshment kiosk which, as well to providing an additional facility for park users, will also generate an income which the Town Council will use to help cover ongoing costs.

Wilmslow Town Council confirmed they have a number of parties interested in running the kiosk and they have a meeting with the agent next week to review the proposals.

The overall cost of the project is in the region of £108,000, £30,000 of which has come from section 106 monies passed over by Cheshire East Council and Wilmslow Town Council are covering the rest.

I suppose the council will be flushed with success, when the penny drops.
