
The Government has opened a consultation process on proposals for car parking charges at hospitals.
The following ideas have been put forward and respondents are being asked to make their preferences known:
• Free Parking for visitors to inpatients
• Free parking for visitors to inpatients who have hospital stays of greater than (for example) 3 or more nights
• Free parking for outpatients with, for example more than 3 appointments in a single course of treatment
• A cap on daily parking for priority groups
• No mandatory concessions but improved adherence to current guidance
Patient and visitor car parking at Macclesfield Hospital is on a pay and display basis with the following charges:
• £1.50 for up to six hours car parking
• £3.00 for more than six hours car parking
• Free parking every evening from 6pm until 6am
Parking at Wythenshawe hospital is more expensive. The current charges are:
• Free for up to 20 mins, drop off and pick up
• £2 for up to 2 hours
• £3 for up to 3 hours
• £4 for up to 4 hours
• £5 for up to 10 hours
• £2 for long stay - no time limit
If you need to park at either hospital frequently for treatment or to visit someone, weekly tickets may be obtained from the pay and display machine which work out at £1 per day.
Disabled car parking spaces are free of charge at both hospitals providing a valid blue badge is clearly displayed.
