GMPTE is advising passengers of a reduced timetable for Northern Rail services on Sunday 27 December.
An amended timetable will be in operation on Northern services in Greater Manchester and other parts of the North West through the day, with an early termination of services from 6pm, due to a shortage of available conductors.
The Manchester-Wilmslow-Crewe line is amongst those affected with the last train departing Manchester at 1804 and the last train from Wilmslow leaving at 1923.
Michael Renshaw, GMPTE's Interim Bus & Rail Director, said: "It is disappointing that this situation has arisen as it will undoubtedly cause some inconvenience for passengers on that day. We would advise people to check what services will be available and plan their journeys before they travel to avoid any disappointment."
"We hope that Northern will continue to work with their staff to alleviate the situation in the meantime. No other operators' services in Greater Manchester will be affected by this announcement."
Further information on routes affected will be available at www.northernrail.org or www.nationalrail.co.uk.
Passengers can also contact Northern's Customer Helpline on 0845 00 00 125, National Rail Enquiries on 0845 484950 or speak to a member of Northern station staff.
