Bollards are going to be installed alongside a residential street in the town centre to protect the grass verges.
Parkway has one hour parking on one side which results in a short stretch, of the already quite narrow, road being only wide enough for one vehicle to pass at a time. Some drivers do not wait and mount the grass verges which has created damage to the kerbs and verges.
Councillor Rod Menlove explained "We've had discussions for a couple of years with residents on options to address this problem. These have included amending parking spacing to create pull-ins but none received clear agreement. We now have broad agreement for strategically placed bollards.
"These bollards will be highly visible to drivers and hopefully will resolve the issue. Most of the services cables and piping are under the grass verges so that has dictated the limited design of bollards that can be used."
Work will commence on Monday, 9th January, to install 15 bollards along the verges (as shown above) at a minimum distance of 450mm from the road.
Key: Green dot - existing tree, yellow dot - existing street furniture, blue dit - existing BT box, continous red dashes - existing parking bays and red dot - new bollards.
