Over the last 10 weeks Styal Running Club has run a successful course for absolute beginners which culminated in 25 new runners taking part in and completing the Wilmslow Parkrun on Saturday, 19th November.

Having developed from a standing start they all completed the free timed 5K run that takes place every Saturday morning in The Carrs park.

Many club members buddied up with a beginner to support them round the course and the group also contributed to the biggest ever turn out of 45 new entrants in the Wilmslow Parkrun which started in April 2015 and is organised entirely by volunteers.

Chairman Chas Lowthian said "Styal RC created quite an atmosphere at Wilmslow Parkrun with lots of whooping, hollering, high fives and verbal encouragement. So much so that it was noticed by the Parkrun organising team. It has been a fabulous 10 weeks and it's been brilliant to help contribute to improving people's fitness and getting them involved in running, many for the first time. We hope to run further courses in the future and will post information on the clubs website."

The parkrun is a friendly, social run which takes place every Saturday in The Carrs park, starting at 9am, for runners of all standards.

A Wilmslow junior 2K parkrun is also held every Sunday for 4 to 14 year-olds starting at 9.30am.

Anyone wishing to take part in the 2k or 5k parkrun must register before their first run. You only need to register with parkrun once.
