Local charity to dish up another souper fundraiser

Wilmslow Wells for Africa will be holding their second Souperday of the year at St John's Church, Lindow on Thursday 3rd November.

The charity has been organising two souperdays each year since 1990, shortly after they were founded and these popular events have a solid band of supporters who always turn up to enjoy homemade soup and bread.

Jenny Gibbs, Chair of Wilmslow Wells said "As autumn is now truly upon us, thoughts are turning to warming food. Your cravings for comfort food can be used to help provide clean water.
"The impact of the lack of clean water is immense; the statistics are hard to take in. 315 thousand children under five die each year from diarrhoeal disease caused by dirty water and poor sanitation. That is 900 a day. Yet the cost of providing clean water for one person in rural Africa is often less than £4. This is the entry price for Souperday."

There will be a choice of four delicious soups and bread, all homemade, plus a hot drink. Cakes, textiles, preserves and Christmas Cards will also be on sale at St John's Church from 11am to 2pm. Admission is £4 for adults and £2 for children. All the money taken goes to our charity to help provide clean, more reliable sources of water in rural Africa.

Wilmslow Wells for Africa is a direct action charity which aims to improve life in drought-stricken areas of Africa by providing wells, pumps, dams and water collection equipment. in total the charity has raised £1,063,000 since they were formed in 1984.

They keep administration costs to a minimum so that 99.2% of everything they raise is spent directly on projects to provide clean water, made possible because their organisation operates entirely on voluntary effort.
