Whole school enjoys Tour of Britain

All the children at Lindow Community Primary School were lucky enough to take a break from lessons this afternoon so they could watch Britain's biggest cycling event.

The whole school made their way to the field on Knutsford Road where they enjoyed seeing competitors in the third stage of the Tour of Britain speed past as they headed to Alderley Edge.

Governor Richard Norris said "We decided that the Tour was passing so close to our school it was too good an opportunity to miss.

"We were able to enthuse all the children in advance, building on the fantastic performances of our cyclists in the Rio Olympics... and we could safely transfer our whole school to the playing field on Knutsford Road without going on the roads."

Headteacher Zoe Wilson commented, "As a personal fan of Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish, I wanted our children to share the experience of seeing them compete, though many were more excited about the stream of police motorcyclists riding past having and tooting their horns! It was especially pleasing to have a local man, Ian Standard, at the head of the race as it passed us and even better when we discovered later that he had won. We'll be practicing our persuasive writing skills to see if we can persuade Mr Stannard to visit school and talk to our children."

Lindow is also proud to have had the winner of the competition to design a cycling shirt to commemorate the race's journey through East Cheshire. Ava Chaplin from Year 3 was at the finish in Tatton Park to show off her design (see photo above and click here for our previous article regarding Ava's win).
