Repair of pedestrian crossing at busy junction prioritised

The pedestrian crossing at a busy junction in Wilmslow town centre is out of order following a road traffic collision at the junction of Water Lane and Alderley Road in the early hours of Tuesday 19th July.

Councillor Rod Menlove has contacted Cheshire East Highways stressing that the crossing needs repairing as a matter of urgency.

A spokesperson from Cheshire East Council responded "Unfortunately the crash did substantial damage to the traffic signals equipment; this included damage to the cabling network. This damage has led

to the pedestrian crossing facilities being 'locked out' and, I believe, the red man being constantly lit.

"We recognise that this is a very busy junction with high pedestrian volumes and in order to get the repairs undertaken as quickly as possible we will be using equipment that had been ordered for other schemes.

"Our supply chain partner will be on site tomorrow in order to undertake all the necessary repair works and they should be completed by the end of the day."

The crossing situation is really dangerous! Good to know that repair work has been prioritised. I hope CEC have put a warning sign at the lights in the meantime to prevent a serious accident.

All work seems to have been completed and crossing working again at 5:45pm Thursday. Let's see how long it takes for the temporary bollards to be removed which have been left piled up at the end of Grove Street. Hint Hint CEC!!

Unfortunately the temporary bollard / hoardings left piled up at the end of Grove Street on Thursday 21st are still there at 5pm on Sunday (24th). Come on CEC!! What's the delay in taking them away? Don't you know that Wilmslow is being judged this week as part of RHS In Bloom.
