Stolen vehicle takes down traffic lights

During the early hours of Tuesday 19th July a single vehicle was involved in a road traffic collision in the town centre.

The accident occurred on Water Lane at its junction with Alderley Road and the vehicle involved had recently been stolen from the Greater Manchester area.

The driver of the vehicle had made off from the scene and police enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver.

As a result of the collision the traffic lights at the junction were knocked down. Cheshire East Council Highways have now attended to secure the damage.

The lights are not allowing pedestrians to cross, I saw a few mums with prams this morning struggling to get across the road. I hope this gets sorted quickly.

Hi Sara, I contacted one of the local councillors about the pedestrian crossing being out of order and he has followed this up with Cheshire East Highways.

I've published another article to let people know this should be fixed tomorrow.
