New Art in a Box unwrapped

The Friends of Handforth Station (FoHS) are continuing with their art project to brighten up and add interest at Handforth Station.

The group of volunteers invited Norwich based artist Jake Francis to install his new show as part of their Art in a Box project which was launched last year.

Jake's work, titled Inadaquate - Therapy (2016) Cuckoo #2 (2016) was unveiled on Tuesday, 19th of July.

James Mander of FoHS said "Jake Francis graduated from Norwich University of Art. His art is presents a cynical and sardonic humour that will bring a smile to the viewer. He has exhibited all over the country and he has kindly loaned 'Inadaquate" at Handforth railway station for a period until December. It looks especially good in the evenings."

Speaking about 'Inadequate', Jake Francis said "They say that this generation is a slippery slope; a winding, destructive mess full of banana peels and upturned nails. Is that a bad thing, though? Well, yes it is. Obviously that's a bad thing - why would you even ask such a question? Despite such negativities, there is one silver lining to the tarnished, empty bowl that is our future; and that is satire.

"Satire is the 'weapon of the powerless against the powerful', and we Brits are no amateurs of this art, no sir. We can pick apart any tragedy and make a joke out of it - that is one of our most prominent features as a nation of cynics. So who cares if it is a slippery slope? What's more fun than a slide?"
