Wilmslow CC 153(114) beat Hale Barns CC 92ao

The Squirrels progressed to the semi-finals of the UK FAST Cheshire League 20:20 Cup, with this comfortable win at Hale Barns.

In a rain affected match the visitors' total of 153, was reduced to 114 and Barns had 15 overs to surpass it. There were several highlights in a game dogged by persistent drizzle and a soaked outfield.

If the home sides Fernando's 47 was impressive given the conditions, Wilmslow's Rob Herriott's 86 was sensational. The wagon wheel showed boundaries to all parts of the Brooks Drive ground, and a few out of it. With Toby Rowe and Ross Kinnerley, adding 19 apiece, the final total demanded a reply of nearly 8 runs an over.

Kinnerley provided the first major obstacle to meeting this target, his 3 overs cost just 6 runs. He also picked up 2 wickets, the dangerous looking Colley LBW and Stubbs playing on. Fernando was the key, and he was finding the boundary with ease. Enter Elliott Rowe who, with the aid of a well set field, took 3 wickets in one over as the stranded Fernando looked on.

The run rate was now 10 an over and with 3 only wkts left, the wristy pint sized Aussie holed out caught Jags bowled E Rowe on the mid-wicket boundary. Elliott had 4 for 16, and brother Toby 2 for 19, Barns were 22 runs short of their revised total after the rain break.

Wilmslow now go to Romiley or Stockport Georgians for the Semi Final.
