It was a sight to behold when hundreds of runners set off behind the lead car, a Ferrari 488 GTB, making their way down the bypass towards Nether Alderley.
The road was closed on Sunday, 3rd July, to enable 800 runners to take part in a 5 mile run on the Alderley Edge bypass.
The event supported East Cheshire Hospice, with Race North West donating fees from the Junior run to the Hospice as well as stalls and some of the runners raising money for them. The final amount raised is yet to be finalised but is expected to be several thousand pounds.
Organiser Andrew Whittingham said "The event had a real community atmosphere with an inflatable pub, barbecue, sports massage, cappuccino van, East Cheshire Hospice charity stand and race HQ marque. All set up and ready for the 8am opening of registration and the 9.30am race start. All stalls raised money for the Hospice.
"The route followed the bypass down towards Nether Alderley for 2.5 miles and then turned back to run another 2.5 miles to the finish. Lindow Scouts ran the halfway water station. Marshals from both East Cheshire Hospice and Wilmslow Running Club ensured a perfect experience for runners, even the weather behaved - cool and dry. The road re-opened ahead of schedule at 12.30pm."
Premier league champion Robert Huth started the race and The Real Housewives of Cheshire star Leanne Brown presented the prizes, as well as running.
Winner Moh Aburezeq set the third fastest 5 mile time in the UK this year, finishing in a rapid 24 minutes 14 seconds, and the first lady was Kirsty Longley in 29 minutes and 12 seconds.
Over 50 youngsters also took part in a one mile fun run which was won by Finley Proffitt and Sarah Stockman, both from Macclesfield Harriers juniors.
