A concerned local resident called wilmslow.co.uk at 12.35am this morning to report a possible UFO sighting.
He left a message saying "I've been watching a very intensely bright red light roughly, at a guess, 10 miles away, roughly maybe 2000 feet high, absolutely stationary. I've been watching it for 20 minutes, reported it to the police - in all that time it absolutely hasn't moved. I have never seen anything like that in all my life.
"So I am reporting it in and hopefully you'll get on it fairly soon because it is bizarre. Absolutely it hasn't moved. so I'm looking at it from Wilmslow due East at a guess I'd say it's over Prestbury, maybe even miles further even could be Hyde or Stalybridge."
He added "It is intensely eight, intensely red and very very still. I have never seen anything like it."
After investigating what was beaming down over Wilmslow the police confirmed it wasn't a bird, it wasn't a plane, it was a crane.
Cheshire Police confirmed via Twitter "We received a call earlier about a possible UFO sighted in Wilmslow. Thankfully it turned out to be a light on a crane. #TheTruthWasOutThere."
