Something strange and wonderful will be growing in Bank Square on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th June.

Wilmslow In Bloom, working with local artist Lorna Fellas, is creating an art installation as part of this year's entry into the North West in Bloom competition – and everyone is invited to get involved.

On Friday selected primary school children will taking part in weaving and plaiting fabric and willow onto fencing to form a huge floral sculpture. Then Saturday, as well as visiting the Artisan Market, everyone is invited down to Bank Square to help complete the huge artwork which will represent this year's entry theme of Butterflies and Bees.

Organisers have been busy collecting bright fabrics which can be incorporated into the work and if anyone would like to contribute any remnants – old sheets or shirts would be ideal – then please take them along with you and see them woven into the design.

Ruth McNulty, Chair of the Wilmslow In Bloom committee said, "We're very excited about this project. As well as encouraging businesses to take part by joining in the planting, we thought that this community artwork would really represent the spirit of In Bloom, as well as the creativity of Wilmslow residents. Once it is complete it will be displayed in Bank Square and then shown to the judges when they visit the town on Friday 29th July."

Local businesses have already started their planting as part of the project with the top of Grove Street blooming thanks to the local school planters which are on. Artwork is also popping up in business window displays, as many schools have been creating their very own 'Butterflies and Bees' masterpieces to support the Wilmslow In Bloom theme.
