George Osborne remembers the fallen in Handforth

Tatton MP and Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne joined Handforth Community War Memorial trustee Anthony Harrison to pay his respects at the new memorial to Handforth men who died in past and more recent conflicts.

The project was spearheaded by Anthony Harrison, trustees and members of the Parish Council and local community groups and businesses worked hard to raise funds for the works.

The Chancellor was given a guided walk and talk through the history of those who's names are engraved on the new memorial and informed about the two year fundraising campaign undertaken to achieve the finished outcome.

George said: "The entire community in Handforth worked so hard to make this memorial happen, investing time and effort in tribute to the sacrifice made by our local heroes. I absolutely shared the view of the trustees that it was important to commemorate those who gave their lives for us."

Anthony Harrison said "It was a great honour to show the Chancellor what the work of a united community can produce. The hard work of all members and societies in Handforth has produced a memorial to those whom paid the intimate sacrifice so that today we can enjoy the freedoms we do, that we can all be proud of for many decades to come.

"The chancellor and I would like to thank everyone who was involved in ensuring that this valued project was a success."

Could we not have a stone or plaque in the Wilmslow Memorial Gardens in remembrance of Prof Alan Turing OBE?
