Introducing monthly walks

Styal Mill

Wilmslow’s Graham Beech will be providing us with selection of walks, mostly based on his book "East Cheshire Walks" which was first published in 1985 and is now in its fourth edition.

Graham was not only the author but also the publisher, as he ran the local Sigma Press publishing business with his wife Diana until mid-2008 when they sold it to Stobart Davies, a specialist publisher in South Wales. The new owner is continuing to publish outdoor leisure books under the Sigma imprint.

"I’m really pleased that the Sigma Leisure name will be around for years to come," says Graham. "Diana and I ran Sigma for almost 30 years and built it up to be one of the best-known names in the leisure book business. I hope it continues to prosper under the new ownership."

Although Graham is officially retired, he still has a busy life. He’s actively involved with the local branch of The Ramblers, a member of the Wilmslow Guild Photographic Society, Treasurer of The Friends of The Carrs, and Secretary of the CycleWilmslow pressure group. His leisure interests include walking, cycling and, in the summer, the more leisurely pastime of crown green bowling.

“East Cheshire Walks” (ISBN 978-185058-816-0) is available from local bookshops and Amazon, priced £7.95.
