Police reviewing whether Council's physio contracts needs investigating

Cheshire Police are looking into Cheshire East Council's awarding of contracts to Core Fit Ltd, which is run by the council leader's physiotherapist Amanda Morris and delivers fitness classes in schools.

The Leader of Cheshire East Council Michael Jones announced his resignation at a meeting of the Cheshire East Conservative Group on Tuesday, 8th December, as a result of the controversy caused by the awarding of three contracts to Core Fit with a total value of £156,000.

The contracts were awarded outside of normal contract procedure rules and a waiver notice, signed by senior officers, was described by Private Eye as a "barely literate justification for tearing up normal procedures".

Michael Jones has maintained that he has done nothing wrong, saying "I am clear that I have not misled the Council", and said he was resigning as a result of infighting within the Conservative Party.

ACC Guy Hindle said: "We are not investigating allegations at this time. We have appointed the Head of the Economic Crime Unit to review the available material to establish if there are any matters that may require investigation."

Michael Jones is to remain as the ward councillor for Bunbury.

Michael/Mick/Mike Jones various companies, allegedly, according to the investigative press, seem not to have filed any accounts for some time either.
From what I read, aside from the £156k "contract" there seems to be another off-record £50k deal. I'm sure that this is a misunderstanding.
